Sahara has been always related to dryness, less rain, green, and animals … most people who haven’t been to the Sahara people imagine it as a dry empty vast area where the only thing you see in summer is a mirage or some black ravens, with a hot sand storm that will block your sight … indeed some are might be seen like this in the really hot summer but what about another area in Sahara those which are closer to the river bed or those of big sand dunes, it must contain something at least a form of life, where there is rain and a humid weather there is animals, green, other forms of life, that’s why somehow there will be similar things that can stand the conditions of Sahara, and you will be surprised by many things you will see if you take your time to listen in the night, or by what you will see in the daylight. One of these magnificent things that are still alive in this nature and still finding its way to update and evolve through time, Nomads know it as Shershmala, while other people called it Sand fish. It’s a lizard with legs, that behaves similarly to fish in the water but instead of the water, there is only pure clean sand. This type of lizard is not toxic at all and once they see someone the first thing will dive deeply inside the sand…

Desert animals are just like us: they want to be left alone and loved.

the amazing thing about these sand fish that they get used to human once you capture one it set next to you and don’t run from you the way it did the first time, there is a trick nomads used to know their age, usually their bodies have some bands and by calculating this bands you would figure out how many months they have …The funny thing about sand fish regardless of the name fish that they don’t drink at all, they eat green and other small animals, and the color you find the most is similar to the sand a bit brown-yellow with some dark points, as it was made perfectly to live in this nature, when the sun is quite hot they either get deep in the sand looking for cold sand or the move out to the shade of small plants they find nearby.

And in the winter they became rare to find as they get deep looking for warmth or if they get into hibernation.  With Sahara eyes, you will get to see desert life through the nomad’s eyes looking at all its amazing side including, animals, plants and their uses, places, and the secret behind their names …with every step they will be something new waiting for you.
